    LM7 engine build

In 3 days it'll mark 1 year since I did the rehaul of my LM7 with the rebuilt heads, Truck Norris Cam and supporting mods (ls3 lifters, cammotion pushrods and springs) etc. I have dailied this vehicle for a whole year and it did not disappoint. I am still averaging more MPGs with this cam and 91...

Got the glass replaced today. Window replacement dude said reason that it cracked and the other side didn't was bc the glass wasn't tinted. Lol. To a degree, he says the tint helps keep the glass more together to combat the vibration of frequencies. The other side was tinted. I never got the...

So after trying out my new Mechman Alternator, I decided to run my audio system full tilt today. And I ended up paying a price for it. I didn't think I was at that tier yet to where I break glass. Won't be doing that again I hope. any suggestions to be able to run full bass without glass...

Just want to show my appreciation to all those that have viewed my build, enjoyed it and there's more to come. Not bad for your average car enthusiast to dive in like this and not bad for the lil old 260k engine that keeps on churnin! Goes to show that proper maintenance will make an engine...

Sorry for not being more specific. I went from 32" (305/50/20) to a 31.3" (285/50/20) tire. Also I've been working 14 day 10-11hour days straight and haven't been able to work on any of my cars or be on the forum. I will be on the lookout for some 4.11s for sure. Until then I will just JB weld...

    LM7 engine build

I do a fair amount of freeway driving. Go to different cities and road trips. Not so much city driving. Was running a 32" 305/50/20 goodyear eagle gt2s most of its life. I stepped it down to 285s tho which is a 30.5-31" tire I believe. Today I received new rear coils from summit racing. Since...

Funny you mention that. Today I was replacing the diff cover gasket bc of a leak and it turns out the leak wasn't from the gasket at all. Yea a hairline crack will cause fluid to spill out Now it's got me thinking. Upgrade/replace cover only or just throw some 4.10s and call it a day

    LM7 engine build

So this might be my last post until I get the TBSS intake, TB and bigger injectors in and installed. I have 3 clips, 1 is a dyno idle clip after doing a pull, the 2nd clip is a walk around the burb this morning after getting some coffee. The last one is the glorious pull all the way up to 6200...

Part of the build... finally got my replacement Mechman Alternator!! Original one gave out a year ago. Upgraded to a better one and it's finally in! excited! Black "320" amp. Previous was a 270amp RIP Even though I got a 320amp, the bench test shows it puts out 400+ amps. What more can I ask...

Haha you're right. My bad. I have it on 91 octane (what we have here in Cali) I reside in HB (sea level) after getting the idle ironed out, which was a bit of a challenge with such a tight LSA, she put 349.72 ft tq @ 4500 rpm and 337.8 hp at 5800 rpm. That was on a dynojet on a chilly weather...

Haha this one's for the books for sure. Don't know what I was thinking starting the teardown at 3pm thinking I'd be done by 11pm finally got her tuned in (almost 100%) finally let her rip last night and I was astonished at the mid-top end results. At the moment I'm getting my TBSS intake list...

Used remove parts: Here are the original lifters, lifters trays and Harmonic balancer. Along with rebuilt head and new cam waiting to go in Here i have the stock pushrods on the side and these dirty as hell head. Oil was definitely leaking from the LOMA and the valve covers... Old Cam gear...

Teardown pt ii. Now that the rocker arms, pushrods, lifters and lifter trays are out of the way we can start making our way into the cam. We start that by removing the timing cover to expose the oil pump, cam gear and timing chain. Here I already removed the 3 bolts holding the cam gear on...

Teardown pt i: mechanical fan, Radiator and air intake removed Harmonic balancer and water pump out of the way. Look at that oil sludge buildup on the timing cover Intake manifold removed as a complete unit with fuel rails and injectors as well as the valve covers and alternator. Next is...

Finally did the Thang. Well most of it. I will follow up with pics. All in all took me roughly 20 hours to do it alone. From 4pm to 12pm all nighter. Here is a link to its first start!

Yea I've read on so many knockoffs failing after months of replacement. I spend the extra on ac Delcos. They haven't failed since replacing back in '14 so they must be good

Thanks! I didn't think about the cam sensor now that you mention it. I did buy a new cam retainer plate, arp crank bolt, replacing balancer as well, plugs, wires, 160* tstat, knock sensors, pushrods. Replaced the rear main seal along with new torque converter when trans was replaced. I went with...

Hello guys, I have an 02 Suburban I received from my parents in 2011. I practically grew up in the burb. Parents bought it from Chevy with 29k miles. I received it with 93k miles and I'm currently clocked at 260k miles on stock lm7 with 2nd trans installed at 230k miles. I'm about to open her up...

862 cylinder heads interchangeable with 706s?

I was thinking of only Replacing one head and not the pair as my cylinder 7 spark plug got cross threaded but I figured might as well get the pair to "keep the balance" of a more complete burn on both banks. I know it the difference in amount of fuel burn might be negligible but it's probably my...

862 cylinder heads interchangeable with 706s?

They will fit directly no problem. Chamber size, valve sizing, stock spring rates are all the same. I was opting for replacement 706s on my 5.3 but inky had 862s available. Main difference is the casting in which the 706s were slightly better than 862.

New to the forum from socal

Just to give everybody an update, I am getting ready to give my 5.3L LM7 a healthy cam. To date, it is in stock condition minus the long tube headers. Meaning stock intake manifold, cam, oil pump, heads, etc. So I have a fresh set of heads, better springs, cam, lifters pushrods, oil pump, new...

I totally hear what you're saying. The weather here is lovely. Just getting too crowded for my liking. The SS purchase was uncalled for on my part. Was looking for a commuter car for the wife and ended up buying the SS for me. She was not happy. I got her a Cruze LTZ RS the following weekend...
