    I've replaced mine twice, once aftermarket and once oem. Both times the lift gate needs help past half way. Perhaps it has something to do with wear or stiction in the hinges.

    The rebuild shop used rtv and it leaked in 2 months. Trying to snug it a bit made it worse. I installed an oem (dry) that only cost about $11 bucks and no problems since. So far on our truck, the factory generally got it right.
