I agree with you. Ideally I would love to have a naturally aspirated V8 with a manual transmission. It’s the most fun to drive and the most reliable. If I can’t have that though, I would opt for a 50 mile range battery paired to a reliable engine for generating electricity only, eliminating...
I think I used the same one you linked, or very similar (looks the same). It doesn’t connect before the thermostat, that’s why you have to bypass it with something like the sure cool. It connects via the cooler lines. The kit is made for you to cut the “out” line to the cooler and splice it...
I installed this very unit on mine. Important to note that unless you bypass the thermostat (I did) it will only filter when hot. I did this while replacing the pan / internal filter. My hope is that as long as I keep my 10 micron spin on filter changed, I shouldn’t really need to drop that...
I used the superior solutions bypass kit, I have a wondered if there is a concern with it not warming in the winter, but my winters are short, so it’s probably fine.
My first steps would be to replace the pan with one that has a drain plug, drain and fill again, and replace the transmission thermostat with the one that opens at 165, or just bypass it. If the TC is bad usually it has a shudder to it and the RPMs will float a bit.
Yeah, that’s what I thought too, but the shift pattern value never changes based on cruise. It also behaves like you would expect for upshifts and TCC applies, but seems to ignore downshift and TCC release guidelines. I will keep digging around and see what I find.
After a good long drive I think I still have some work to do. It releases a bit to easily, so need to revisit my tables. Also it seems to do what ever the hell it wants in cruise control, which is a bummer. Will update if i get a chance to tweak things. I do really like the idea over all...
I had to do this in combination with the ratchet strap to replace my stock pan. I can confirm that the strap itself wasn’t enough and that this did help me. I didn’t use a PPE, just installed something with a drain plug, but was still more difficult than it seemed for some. I’m not sure if...
Solved!! I figured it out. So no more leaks and coolant level remains stable. Well I had ordered a new reservoir just incase which I received today. I looked it over and noticed a strange hole in the bottom. Turns out there is a vent built into the top of the lid. The cap is a 2 stage cap...
I don't think there was any pressure, it definitely wasn't hot, and I don't remember a hiss at all.
I checked it again today after my wife drove it, and while the tank had dropped slightly, no leaking on the garage floor at all. I think the slight drop in the tank level is fairly expected...
I finally got around to trying this out last week. I made the changes in Tow Haul first to see how I like it. Right now it will only lock in 5th and 6th, and only under 20% throttle. It will stay latched in until 37%. I wanted some room between the lock and the release to prevent it from...
2017 Tahoe LT 5.3 2WD - 92,000 miles, single owner, garage kept.
Ok, I am a bit perplexed and just want to see if I am missing something here.
Today I changed the oil and did a coolant drain / refill on our Tahoe. While I was refilling it, I noticed a large puddle of coolant under the vehicle...
I have always run mine between 40-42, depending on the season. If I have expect to make a long trip in rain / snow / sleet, I will drop them back to 35. The only thing negative I could mention is that my tires appear to be cupped on the inside, but that might be due to blown struts I had for a...
If you still have problems, I might consider the alternator. I had an old Mazda that acted all kinds of crazy before the alternator gave up the fight. You mentioning that the new battery fixed it for a month before acting up again is very reminiscent of my troubles with that car. Good luck.
Once i put the surecool bypass in I have never seen higher than 160, and that was on a hot day (95 degrees) in traffic for an hour. I rarely see it over 125 if I am on the highway. Not sure what I would have to do in order to get it to climb to 200 …. I do have the factory tow package which I...
Good to know. I know you’re going to think I am crazy, but I believe the Amsoil filter is the same as the Fram endurance filter (made in the same factory). I also happen to know that the Fram endurance is out of stock, so I had to go back to a Mobil 1 filter. Maybe that factory is having a...
Yeah bummer, I confirmed this today with my own tables. FWIW tow haul mode on mine is actually pattern A. I know this changes from vehicle to vehicle though for reasons unknown to me. I think I might give your converter strategy a shot. Basically I want it to lock and stay locked only under...
Thanks for this, I will check out those TUTD tables this weekend. I was always confused on how that worked with Tow haul, as you can be in TUTD with tow haul on / off. The pattern B thing though makes sense. Maybe that is Tow haul in TUTD mode.
Thanks @LSCALADE !
I have done some very basic work on my transmission:
No TCC in 1/4.
Reducing slip by 75-90%.
Turn off DFM.
I have been toying with the idea of some more changes, but somewhat held back by ignorance.
You mentioned that you changed the TCC to lock 1 mph after the shift point...
Was this failure the same as your other failures? I lost a master cylinder on a 1989 Toyota Camry when I was 16. Had nothing except the emergency brake and down shifting. Never had a brake pump fail though. Could there be trash in the system?
The following assumes data and tables pulled via HP tuners on a 2017 Tahoe 5.3 with a 6L80
By line pressure I am assuming you mean the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) line pressure? From everything I read TCC line pressure is calculated and applied based on the actual TCC slip vs the desired TCC...
From what little I know, and it’s not much, the shudder combined with the RPMs jumping around, seems like the torque converter clutch. Not sure with the #5 missfire, but i would try to swap that plug and see if it helps.
