Squeaks, rattles and vibrations - SOLVED!

Maybe I shouldn't have put "SOLVED" in the title yet! The hunt still continues, although I've made a lot of progress and might just live with what I've got. A big one I recently solved was the buzzing in the aftermarket radio fascia plate. I used foam caulking backer rod. It's just a about...

Squeaks, rattles and vibrations - SOLVED!

Thought I'd share in the hopes that this post may help preserve other owners' sanity. I've had my 2013 Tahoe LT (Leather, bucket front seats/console, etc) for a little less than 2 years now. Off and on during that time I've been annoyed by a lot of rattles and just a generally noisy, creaky...

L83 to l96 swap completed finally

This is great work. I'm salivating - I have dreams of swapping out my 5.3 LMG for a L96. Either that or boring the 5.3 to a 5.7. Please keep us posted on progress - tuning or otherwise.

    New Travel Trailer

Thank you! Yes, we were the first to respond to his ad, and when we looked at it next day, he said he was getting a lot of calls on it. Definitely underpriced it. (based on a number of comps I looked at). I'm not sure it was stored indoors all its life, but at least the last several years...

    New Travel Trailer

Picked up this 2006 19' Northwood Nash a couple weeks ago. Maiden voyage for us this coming weekend. A few projects for me in the coming months, but it's in pretty good shape. Microwave appears to not be working, so may need to replace that. Anxious to see how the Tahoe (2013 LT, 5.3) does...

20 psi oil pressure hot idle

Wow, wish I had seen this post a week earlier! I had no idea about the different styles of pickup tubes and that there were specific corresponding o-rings. Nor did I know about the availability of the girdle. (I was wondering what that second bolt hole was for). My tube is straight, no taper...

20 psi oil pressure hot idle

Mine was black, Fel-Pro P/N 72401. Got it from AutoZone. One I took out was red.

20 psi oil pressure hot idle

I just finished the o-ring replacement today in my 2013 with 207k. I explained in another post I was changing out the front diff carrier, so took the opportunity to do the o-ring at the same time. I was getting 20 psi hot idle too, maybe even a little lower. And 30 or under even at 2000k+...

    hum or howl in 4wd

Everything put back together and voila!, no more noise from front diff. Can't hear the difference between 2wd and 4wd (auto or high) at all. And as discussed previously in this thread, this time I went the extra step of dropping the oil pan to replace the pickup o-ring. Now my oil pressure is...

    hum or howl in 4wd

Yeah, sounds pretty familiar. I just took my carrier out tonight and tomorrow will put in the replacement unit from LKQ. I split the two halves and looked inside, but haven't seen anything crazy obvious yet. I'll do some more checking tomorrow and report back. Guys - I'm thinking since I...

    Speedo (suddenly) reading high

Yep, he missed it. And somehow I didn't notice for months. Weird. But I took it to him yesterday and he pulled the active flash and found that the GR was showing 3.08. Changed it to 3.42, reflashed, went for a drive, and all is well.

    Speedo (suddenly) reading high

Yeah, I'm thinking it's got to be that. I guess somehow I just missed it for the five months since I had it tuned. I'm checking in with him now.

Upgrading a 1500 4x4 for travel trailer towing

Another vote here for 3.73 vs 4.10. Same thinking as others - base it on desired RPM for desired speed in 4th gear. Another consideration, the 6L80 has a much lower 1st gear (about 4:1) than the 4L60e (about 3:1). 4L80e was an even higher 1st at about 2.5:1. So older rigs with 4 speeds, low...

    hum or howl in 4wd

Thanks, James! Good to know. So sounds like it’s almost surely a direct bolt-in either way?

    hum or howl in 4wd

Sounds like warranty claim is turning out to be a no-go. LKQ customer rep said I ordered it custom, no VIN provided, so no warranty. I had to do that because I was changing axle ratios and they wouldn't sell it to me otherwise. I do remember that conversation when I was ordering it, but at...

    hum or howl in 4wd

I was looking more closely at the oil I drained out the other night. There is tons of metal in there, but it is super fine, zero flakes or chunks. Reminds me of metallic silver paint that hasn't been thoroughly mixed. And a magnet doesn't pick any of it up. I'm guessing something is grinding...

    hum or howl in 4wd

I haven't asked yet. I'll ask or maybe just submit the receipt, but even if they don't, it'll be better than paying the $400 for a different unit.

    hum or howl in 4wd

I might be getting a break - I called LKQ Online today and put in a warranty claim. Still some hoops to jump through, i.e. got to take it to a shop for an official diagnosis, but maybe it will work out. Called in the nick of time - it's a 6 mo warranty and tomorrow is exactly 6 months from the...

    hum or howl in 4wd

Drained the fluid today - front diff is cooked. Tons of sparkles, oil is completely silver. Time to go shopping. Going to get another used assembly and hope for the best.

    Speedo (suddenly) reading high

This is a weird one, my speedo is suddenly reading high. Or at a minimum, I suddenly noticed it. About 14% or so. It'll be reading 50, but according to phone GPS (I have a speedometer app) I'm actually going 44. Similar percentage change across the range. I did a gear ratio swap last...

    hum or howl in 4wd

yeah, that's pretty much what it sounds like. Maybe a little lower pitch and not quite as pronounced, but pretty close.

    hum or howl in 4wd

New Delco hub assemblies installed. No dice - noise unchanged. It has to be coming from the front diff. I will probably let it ride for a while - I don't use 4wd a ton, and it's usually short distances. It was wishful thinking that new wheel bearings would solve it, I know. But I'm not...

    hum or howl in 4wd

Ordered 2 AC Delco Gold hub assemblies, should be here on Wed. We'll see if that helps.

    hum or howl in 4wd

I had my wife drive it tonight so I could sit in front pass seat and rear seat to listen. Still don't have it nailed down, but I think I can rule out t-case. It's most noticeable from driver's seat. I've got 207k with what I'm assuming are the original front hubs/bearings. If the noise isn't...

    hum or howl in 4wd

Front axle was a from LKQ, not rebuilt. But it had considerably less miles than the one I took out. Your thoughts of pinion bearing does sound reasonable - I agree it sounds like a bearing - but I just find it strange that I'm getting the same noise with two different front carrier assemblies...
