Hope you find a good PDR guy to fix it, yes it can be done. I had insurance cover some of the hail damage (also cracked the rear windshield) it took quite a while to get fixed. Was such a pain.
Gradually detach it. It shouldn't leave any residue since it hasn't been on a long time. But if it does, it'll be good to use a 3M adhesive remover (citrus based), just avoid the alcohol and acetone based adhesive removers coz that might ruin the finish.
