2005 Yukon 5.3: why do I need the 1.25" core radiator

Hi all. I have an 05 5.3 Yukon and my radiator has failed. In seeking a replacement, most that show up are 1" core. Is there a reason I shouldn't use a 1" core radiator? Is the 1.25" core necessary for the rear heat? Or is it for towing, which I don't typically do? I wouldn't mind going without...

Weird oil pressure problem 2005 Yukon 5.3

2005 GMC Yukon AWD 5.3. Long story short. Oil pressure reads zero at startup but if you stab the throttle comes up to normal. Replaced sending unit same thing. Replaced the pickup tube and o-ring same thing. Manual pressure gauge indicates zero pressure until stabbing the throttle, at which...

Can i run my 2005 Yukon 5.3l with 8 quarts of oil in it

I'm not gonna run until I need to drive it to the new shop. It has 7 in it now. I'll add the 8th before I start it and head out.

Can i run my 2005 Yukon 5.3l with 8 quarts of oil in it

I typically try to do all of my own work as well, but having a hernia and it being very cold right now makes that a tough ask. We are going to have some below zero Temps this week. The big deal with this shop is telling me it was ready, taking my money, knowing I was picking it up after hours...

Can i run my 2005 Yukon 5.3l with 8 quarts of oil in it

This is a necessity or it will leak at the seams where the parts bolt to the block. Additionally, I would recommend purchasing the auxiliary clamp for the pickup tube. Here is a link to a Melling branded unit...

Can i run my 2005 Yukon 5.3l with 8 quarts of oil in it

That's easier said than done. The shop owner has communicated to me he has no interest in doing the right thing. My only recourse at this time is to get it repaired, video or photograph and document the findings, and pursue legal action to try to get my money back. It's the principle of the...

No, from the shop that did the initial repair. It goes in for repair at the new shop the 22nd.

Can i run my 2005 Yukon 5.3l with 8 quarts of oil in it

What I'm saying is, I think it is possible the pickup tube is cracked at the underside of the flange where the clamp at the bolt secures it to the oil pump inlet. I am not saying they did or didn't replace the o-ring, at this point only the mechanic knows that, especially since they did not...

The one in the oil cap is. I'm aware of the extra clamp that can be used to even out the pressure and I'm definitely going to have one installed during reassembly.

Can i run my 2005 Yukon 5.3l with 8 quarts of oil in it

At this point I'm kind of wondering if the clamp was overtighened and the edge that contacts the bulge in the tube has cracked or pierced it? Judging by the o-ring deformation, I think it's a possibility. If you look closely, the flange in the tube is really deformed nearest the bolt, and the...

Can i run my 2005 Yukon 5.3l with 8 quarts of oil in it

I'm posting another view of the o-ring before removal. Does anything look out of the norm here? Is it typical for the side nearest the bolt to retain more of its shape than the side opposite?

Here's some pics from the mechanic that just did the job. He did not send a pic of the pickup tube with the new seal on it? Notice the picture of the oil pan pre cleanup. Looks pretty good for 207k miles. Not much in the way of sludge or build up. Speaks well of full synthetic oil and timely oil...
