'97 GMC Yukon 4-Door. Standard radio, no BOSE system.

Alright, so I had a couple of factory speakers blown out. I decided to "upgrade", within my budget, to some Pyramid 2-way and 3-way speakers. I DID NOT, until a few days ago, know that aftermarket speakers sucked when used with a factory radio. I found out AFTER installing the left door speakers (Front 3-way, Rear 2-way).
I did a quick search online and found this thread, which was confirmation that I "need an amp" because the factory radio will not push aftermarket speakers.

These are the speakers I have purchased.

Rear Doors - http://www.amazon.com/Pyramid-652GS-6-5-Inch-200-Watt-Speakers/dp/B00069QTMI

Rear Roof - http://www.amazon.com/PYRAMID-4108GS-3-Way-Speakers-300-Watts/dp/B00069QULS

I need suggestions and tips. I am ignorant when it comes to audio electronics; I've always kept it real basic, but now I need these speakers to work for me. They are working, and seem clear, but are barely audible. Some people suggest a sub AND amp, some JUST an amp. - TIA :emotions133:

Any reason in particular you are sticking with the stock radio?

I like originality and the budget plays a big part. I don't need anything fancy at all. It's never been a priority to me.

Honestly, a basic aftermarket head unit would probably be a major improvement on sound. Probably be less, if not the same as installing an amp just for those speakers. If it were me, I'd replace the head unit. If I still wanted more, then I would add an amp. Easier to do an amp off an aftermarket head unit anyway. If you're dead-set on sticking with your factory radio, a small amp to run those speakers would be fine. Install won't be fun, but if you use speedwire, it won't be so bad. Only need a sub if you want more bass.

Thanks man. I appreciate the insight. I'll look into a head unit. I understand Kenwood is REALLY good?

Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, JVC they're all pretty good. Just find something you like, in your budget, and you should be fine.

x2 on the head unit if budget is a huge factor dont rule out used. there isnt much that can go wrong with a head unit that isnt abused and some people change them alot!
