can anyone provide any information about the LS based engines and their loose timing chains. I actually have a L59 engine that doesn't even have a tensionor or dampener or even the threaded holes to install one. I read a popular magazine that said that the reason for the loose chain is by design because the way the gears and rollers are designed by GM that it actually tightens when the engine is running. Does anyone know if this is true? I don't know if it is or not nor do I understand how this is possible. I've always been taught that a loose chain will whip and cause all kinds of problems even jumping off or skipping a tooth.

I shouldnt be loose but Ive never had a stock one super tight either. Most engines arent drilled for the damper.
