I have a 97 tahoe that I use as a winter driver/tow vehicle and have thought about working with it a bit. I saw GM has a 383 crate motor, but my question comes from looking at the specs. The bore size on it is 4.000", if I'm right the bore size on a stock 350 cu in small block is 4.000". So, would I be correct in thinking all I need is a stroker crank to make this a 383 cu in Vortec? Or does it need .030" over bore like the traditional stroker?

Stock bore is 4.000 to get a "true" 383 you need a 4.030 bore. If your block is in good shape there is no need to bore. I bet it's easier finding pistons that are .030 though.
