I'm new to the forum, searched can't really get a definite answer. I'm in the process of either getting a 99 tahoe with a gt4/g80 axle which is stock. I'm not going to hardcore off road it, but I'm going to run either 33inch or 35 in. I understand due to Autotrac I may have to get a upgraded front driveshaft. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two? Trade offs etc? Personal opinions

The difference between a 4 inch and a 6 inch lift varys however from RC All it really comes down to is the size of the blocks they use .

The 6 inch kit will require a new front shaft.
what Gzes is trying to say is more than likely you will wish you would have gotten the 6 inch kit instead of the 4 , Lifting is kind of addicting. but to be honest the 4 inch kit can become a 6 inch with the use of bigger blocks and a mild cranking of the Torsion bars

Here is where it gets tricky
Aftermarket Rims------------
33s and a 4 inch kit will fit just fine however in order to fit 35s on most aftermarket rims you will need the 6 inch

with Stock rims you can stuff 35s into a 4inch kit.

The difference between Rough Country's 4" and 6" lift kits is the addition of 2" add-a-leafs for the rear for the 6" kit. Both kits come with 4" blocks for the rear and the same brackets to drop the front diff. and suspension 4". To get 6" lift in the rear you install the 2" add-a-leafs and to get 6" lift in the front you need to crank the torsion bars. That's it.

For reference here's my 2 door with Rough Country's 6" lift on '03 Silverado wheels and 33" Nitto Terra Grapplers:

And here it is (same 6" lift) on Moto Metals with 35" Nitto Mud Grapplers:

I think a four would be just fine if you don't plan on going rock crawling and crap like that. One thing people don't like to realize is the higher the lift, the more wear on your front end and less mpgs. For example, my 79 Bronco 6" blew through front end parts and my uncles 96 K2500 with a 6" would destroy tie rods. Just a thought.

If you need the front end then you have no issues. Once you lift you always want more. 4" if you simply want to clear. 6" if you plan to drive the vehicle off of pavement. 2" make a lot of difference in the clearance department

If you go with a 6" and 35s, your going to have to throw regearing into the equation as well. Even with the 4" lift and 33s, the stock gearing in a G80 will more than likely cause issues down the road.

That too.:happy160: So you're talking $2000 in lift, alignment and tires plus regearing costs.

Not trying to deter you or anything but those are just the facts of it. I've taken my Hoe off road at stock height and have never had any problems yet. Hell hopefully in the spring I'm goin to Moab with all the Jeeps.
