p0430 -code - Need a new cat?

starting getting this code maybe 5-6k thousand miles ago. would clear it out but it will come back after 500-1000 miles. Just swapped the downstream passenger side o2 sensor and code came back after a couple hundred miles.


So I am guessing it time for a cat replacement?

any other thought? Going to go ahead and change plugs and wires also as I got 125K on the clock.

Can I use one of these universal cats and have a shop weld it in?

Though the universal it cheaper don’t go that route or at the least you may replace it again or worse. Check everything involved in the system plugs are a good start pull some from that side and look for signs of fuel not burning completely. Check your air filter. If you have access to a Tech2 or advanced reader you can check while the truck is running. Make sure it’s the cat before you replace it. 125k isn’t a lot of miles
