My wife hit mirrors with an oncoming car and shattered the driver's side mirror of our 05 Yukon SLT. The glass is shattered, the painted panel gone, and the housing itsself is broken. Unfortunately the mirror had all the features....power, heated, auto fold, puddle light, auto-dim, signals, painted panel that matches body, etc. I do not need all of these features. I would be fine with just powered, heated, and all textured black. A direct replacement is $300+ and I want to avoid that. I can find the cheaper ones all day long on various sites for cheap. My question is, are the basic, just powered and heated mirrors compatible with the existing wires for the premium mirrors? I can cut and splice wires if needed, but would be nice if they were plug and play. Obviously, I would get a matching pair as well. Just trying to save a little money by not getting unnecessary features on just a mirror. Thank you for your help.

I came out good on EBay with a original used mirror for my OBS with power, auto dim, and heat for $40. I wanted to keep it original and not no knock off but the dealer wanted $300 as well. We I get to work tonight and surfing the web I will look around for a use one for you if you want. Sunday nights are slow nights for me at work.

Thanks for the links! I will probably just get some more basic mirrors with just power and heat. $200+ for a used mirror is steep, plus I would have to get two matching covers because the driver side is gone. I have seen several places where the mirrors are plug and play. I just hope my plug for the fancy mirrors will work for one with less features. I can get a matching pair of black ones for under $100. Thanks

Because my vehicle had the premium mirrors, can I down grade to a set that just have power, heat and puddle light and they work? I have been reading a lot and can only find info on upgrading. They all needed new switches and reprogramming. I do not need power fold or auto-dim and do not want to spend $300+ on one non-matching premium mirror for stuff I don't need when I can get a matching set for $90. Thanks

I need to know the same thing. My wife broke the driver side mirror also, and I want to downgrade too. Peabodyjk, if you find an answer, will you post it, please. thanks.

My housing is good but the glass is shattered. Can I replace only the glass part?

Yes you can replace just the glass. Make sure you get one with the backing plate. There are youtube videos on how to swap it. Basically you just gently pry the old one out and the new one just pops in. Obviously you have to unhook and retook wires in the process. My whole housing has two big cracks, the painted trim piece was in 100 pieces but I found a big chunk for a just in case paint match, and the glass is in 100 pieces but all still glued to backing plate. Just the glass for the "fancy" mirrors is $160+ shipping on ebay. You can get basic ones cheaper, but I am still unclear on downgrade compatibility. I'm going to just take a chance and buy a pair with less features for $80. At worst we will have 100% manual mirrors, but they should work. Better than looking to change lanes and seeing 100 mini reflections all slightly different of what is in the next lane. I will update with what I find.
