As it says in the title, I press the brake pedal at low speeds and the module on the fender well makes a growling noise thus causing loss of braking capacity.

It was going to cause me to rear end someone so I unplugged the module which stopped the problem but I'd like to fix it the right way or even just delete the whole system.

The truck is a 1998 Yukon 4wd four door.

My last truck , a 1997 Tahoe 4wd four door, had the same problem but it was occasional so it didn't bother me as much.

One thing I have noticed.
They both started this after I replaced the OEM wheel bearings with Presicion brand hub assemblies.

Any thoughts, suggestions or fixes are appreciated.

Unbolt the wheel speed sensor from the wheel hub assembly and see if it has grease built up on it. This could be causing your ABS to get a bad reading. Or take it to a dealer that can scan the ABS for you.
