Not sure if anyone has seen this yet but metra has released a dash kit to put a double din in the bastard 1.5 din tahoes. We have one at the shop and it looks to be nice quality.

You said you have one in the shop, hook us up with a pic installed if you ever get a chance! Been wanting to do this to my truck but all the homemade modified '03+ ones I haven't been 100% sold on!

It looks good, just wondering how expensive it would be though.

it's been out. They're $150 - $200 online everywhere.

Just search " Metra DP-3002B "

Ahh... Yea for that price if i had a 99-02 I would just mod the stock one... but for those who aren't able to do it, this is a great solution

Funny story...Metra was making theses so fast that they actually broke the mold. Had to put them on backorder till they got the mold fixed. They issued the already made ones to the bigger buyers. We just now got our kits in

That seems like a lot, you can buy factory ones from the junkyard for less than $50. Even if you mess one up trying to modify it you still come out ahead. I modded the factory '02 piece and I'm happy with the results. Here's a pic:
