I am giving my '96 Yukon to my son for his 16th birthday. She had served us well as a family SUV but now she has a new attitude.

What gears would be best? This is gonna be mostly in-town driving, not pulling anything, probably an occasional Friday night mud ride.

Look in the glovebox at the RPO codes

GU6 = 3.42
GT4 = 3.73

If you have 3.73 gears you shouldn't really need to regear...if you have 3.42 gears I would swap them for 4.10's

Thanks DBH. I just looked and it says GT4 and G80 so i guess I am going to see how she does as is.
Transmission was rebuilt 25k miles ago so it is relatively fresh.

3.73 and 33's is a very common setup. I ran both on my OBS Tahoe and OBS Z71 and it did perfectly fine. I say just throw a transmission cooler on it and be good man.
