Some argue that using them could cause more damage to the door if they get really violent with trying to force it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So when they push that cylinder in are they able to reach in that hole and toggle the lock? Is that how they do it? So a plate holding the lock in place prevents them from getting in the hole? I haven't taken the door apart yet to look inside to see how they did it.

I think the plate prevents the lock mechanism from being actuated.

Here's how mine looked when discovered, they definitely got in and rifled through the console:

Wow. I didn’t think thieves would bother trying to steal these any more since they aren’t really worth much any more.
