Just a quick update. The truck is still starting every time and running well. I'll keep this updated as time goes on. Thanks again for all the help.
Charles
I definitely took the circular route to find the problem. I should have started with a fuel pressure test. I put in a new Delphi pump, although I have questions about a fuel pump with a 100k life expectancy. I do have a lot of confidence in Denso parts. The fuel pressure test kit came in today...
Well, the Tahoe is alive again. Time for the walk of shame:cool:. I've managed to squeeze 6 days of pain and misery out of a 45 minute/5 cent repair. I may make try to make a new thread for future reference if what I've learned can help anyone else avoid the same thing. An accurate fuel pressure...
I thought the same thing too until I looked at the VATS relearn guide below and compared my key. When I talked to my buddy that owns the car audio shop he said the same thing because they have to bypass the key/switch to install remote start systems. I've actually solved (at least temporarily)...
After more research I've decided to go this route. I saw a shop recommended on another forum and talked with them this morning. He thinks the VATS disable should work. It's $150 and I should have the PCM back by the end of next week. I'll link the thread where I read about this below. It's a...
I appreciate the link. I've been looking at the different manuals and I'm a little confused about which one applies to the . On another note, I found a module (New Rockies) that claims to permanently fix all VATS issues. It uses a universal module with adjustable dip switches and different...
This is all still pretty confusing to me. I'd never even heard of VATS before your post Monday. I think you're right that all the versions of VATS are sort of under the same umbrella. Even though my system (Passlock) doesn't use a chip or resistor key like PK/2,3, if I'm understanding it...
I appreciate the information. I've read the relearn process, but not in that much detail. I've tried it several times with no success. I replaced the fuel pump Saturday so I think I have good fuel pressure, but I'll have a gauge Sunday. I'm starting to understand why none of these threads are...
I actually pulled everything to get to the module last night as well as the column covers. One of the YouTube Passlock videos I watched suggested grounding the purple wire to the module. It claims to fix it whether the module works or not. Everything was spotless so I don't think anyone's ever...
Small update. My Dad ran by and scanned the truck and there are no codes. The battery has been disconnected multiple times while doing the fuel pump so it may not throw any codes until it runs more than 3-4 seconds. A buddy of mine owns a car stereo shop and has had to use a key bypass many...
Another hare brained thought. Im not sure how the entire Passlock system works, but the keyless entry is pretty sketchy with my truck. It's usually easier to just unlock the door with the key. Any chance security could "engage" because the system thinks the door was opened without disarming? The...
I'll only start a new thread if the issue is definitely resolved. One way or another, we're going to get to the bottom of this. From everything I've seen, I think you're right that the anti theft dash light flashing briefly and then going off is normal. When the key is first turned on the pump...
I haven't read the codes yet, but I spent (wasted) the whole evening watching YouTube videos and reading about the Passlock anti theft module/system. Totally down the rabbit hole. It may be something else, but the start and run perfect for 3 seconds symptoms sound exactly like what's going on...
I wasn't able to get my Dad's scanner today, but I should be able to tomorrow. With the key on the anti theft light shows for a few seconds then turns off. When the key is first turned on the fuel pump also cycles. Turning the key on and off several times, the engine starts and runs well for...
I'Ve seen the VATS mentioned. Most of the stuff I saw said that there would be a security warning light on the instrument panel. What you're saying does sound plausible. Edit: I didn't see the link to the document you posted. I'll have to try this tonight. It sounds EXACTLY like my situation...
Thanks for the responses. I have access to a cheap "Kobra" Bluetooth scanner, but I doubt it has anything more than the most basic features. As far as reading live sensor data, will there even be any data to read if it only runs 3-4 seconds at a time? I don't know if the BAFX Bluetooth scanner...
I've done a bunch of searching and haven't found anything that sounds exactly like my situation. I got my '99 2wd 5.7 l from my grandmother when she passed away a few years ago. It initially ran fairly well, but was really only used to occasionally pull a lawn trailer. A year or two ago it...
Bump. To be sure I'm asking the right question, do I just grab a couple of leaves off another Tahoe at pull a part? If so, do I want the shorter or longer leaves out off the donor leaf pack? Thanks much!
Charles
For leaves, should I just go to pull a part and get a couple of leaves from a similar generation Tahoe to use? Any other or cheaper/better source for a couple of leaves per side? Thanks much for the help. The rear end of this truck is REALLY soft!
Charles
Thanks for the advice. I'm probably going to just get a pair of stock size tires because the fronts are pretty bad and then look at real tire/wheel options when I replace all four. I may look at just adding a leaf or two and see what that does to help with the rear sag. I've got a good trunnion...
I recently inherited my G'mothers '99 2WD Tahoe. I know; very generous! After fixing some ignition issues it runs really well. It will need tires soon. It has OE size 235/75/15's on it now. I personally don't usually consider anything w/o 4WD to actually be a real TRUCK, but I'm going use this...
