I tore the plastic wind deflector off from the underside of my Tahoe. It is the black strip that is 3-4 inches wide and 6 feet or so wide. Was off-roading, got hung up and ripped it off. I still have it and I could potentially reinstall it but may get torn off again. What is the purpose and is it important to have? Must be of some importance bc most vehicles seem to have them including large trucks.

Aerodynamics/gas mileage. I also think it helps as a 'curb feeler' to know if something is approaching a height that you may not want to drive over.

Can always switch out to the PPV spoiler. There is discussion elsewhere on the Exterior page.

I don't think there would be any advantage off roading with or without it, but I do feel it is an advantage in normal driving in moving MORE AIR to the grille area and the AC condenser as well as the radiator...........just:2cents:

I took mine off when I first got it and never saw a difference in running temps for the Air, Trans or radiator It was hitting the ground off road all the time.

I have since removed all of the plastic under my new bumper and nothing is running hot..
