So it wasn’t, but I popped out the grille and cut the plastic backing out and then cut out the same area on the bumper. I knew the Denali’s lower grille would allow for airflow if I did that after doing some looking. The big trip starts in the 9th so I’ll let you know how it does! Right now I have constant 12v to the thermostat so I think I’m gunna run a wire for a switch inside so that way I can kill the fan if it’s still running after we stop and I shut the vehicle off.
Shouldn't need to worry about it. The longest mine has ever run after shutdown is about 60 seconds.

Had some time last night so I completed the process of re-plumbing the radiator's transmission fluid pre-heater/cooler inline before the Derale cooler. Took it for a long ride this morning and noticed that it took longer than before for the fluid to reach 190ºF, which is the opposite of what I expected, but makes sense in hindsight. But that was the warmest it ever got, and once the Derale's fan kicked in, the temp came back to the mid 180s and stayed there for the rest of the drive. Pulled in the driveway and shut it off, and the cooler fan was still running but shut off literally within 5 seconds. I'll be pulling trailer again tomorrow and will report back here on any other changes I notice.

So far, with my set up, minus how the cooler lines look in this picture, I haven't seen trans temps go above 135 in 80 degrees.

I used to have a Trucool 40K mounted in the same spot and the transmission kept cool, but couldn't keep my coolant temps under control when towing in the summer heat. That's why I switched to the Derale mounted behind the license plate.

I have a Mishimoto radiator with mine and so far I haven't had any temps over 200. I live in the foot hills near Boulder, CO and the hottest day it's been is 85. I've only heard my fans go on HI twice so far. It's going to be a hot weekend, I'll take it up the mountains above 10k feet and report how it does. My set up is still pretty new too, I hope everything keeps it's cool. I do have a 4 corner steam kit on mine, maybe that helps a bit?

Nice. We lived in Longmont until March 2020, so I’ll be interested to hear about your experiences this weekend.

Lol I lived in Castle Rock for 3 years and then the Vail Valley for 9 before we moved down to Texas 4 years ago. I’ll be in Frederick on Wednesday for the start of our trip!

I wish I could have used a big ass trans cooler like mikeyss has.. but with
the intercooler mounted up there it;s a no-go.
But that truly is the best and coolest air... I've got the mishi radiator too
I've got to get into my fan % control so the fans will come on at highway speeds
when I'm towing. When not towing I dont see over 195* almost ever coolant
and under 180* trans temps..
Of course towing is a whole other animal !!!!

If you think about it.. the trans fluid goes thru a nice cool radiator first and can
shed A LOT of heat initially... until the T-Stat open up it's pretty cool up there.
So it really takes a bit to get the trans temp UP... And in winter/cold it helps
stabilize the temps so you don't run too cool
