Hi! 2005 yukon xl denali here. When i drive once i get to opersting temp there is a strong burn smell coming from somewhere. Iys not just the air inside blowing i can smell it from the outside. Ive power washed the entire engine bay undernesth everything and thr smell is still there. Ive only had it for 2 weeks but the previous owner said they had to change the oil pump and the also did the cover but not the gasket. Mechanic apparently said gasket was fine. I see a bit of oil from down there. Would that be the burning smell? It isnt burned rubber it just smells like straight burn. How do i go about oinpointing it? Truck has 185k on it which i think is still low for the year. Not great but not bad either. Id appreciate any and all suggestions. Tyia!

That's probably what you smell...i definitely have a leaky pan and get the same!! Probably a good idea to change the pan gasket and or have the rear seal looked at.

Well i know the exhaust does have a leak at the heads. It has a tick when started at cold that slowly goes away as it warms up. Maybe thats part of it? I plan on doing long tube headers and a full exhaust as soon as i can wade thru all thr info out there to see what the best deal is. What is the rear seal? Is that the rear diff? Thats on my list that and the front diff. Ive never changed a front diff or a oil pan gasket before how hard is that to do myself? I know precious owners said that they recently put in a transfer case from an o4 escalade from a junkyard could that be it? Is there a way to freshen that up? I appreciate the info yall are so helpful.

you can get your build sheet via email by going to the gm website, select your brand, then select chat, the chat person can send it to you.
also you can decode the vin here https://chevroletforum.com/forum/vindecoder.php?vin=1GCUKREC2FF201830

Maybe "rear seal" is the wrong term but there is a seal where your transmission mates to the block right there near where the oil pan is...there is an opening where you can imspect...that can leak also. I haven't changed my pan gasket because mine is a 4x4 so it's more difficult due to the crap that has to move put of the way (front diff)
