Hi all

Been a while since I posted here . Just hit 4k on our '17 (and NO issues to date). Still in honeymoon with the driving experience ;-). My wife is the primary owner and has totally ditched our X5 and only drives the Denali (even for short runs ...lol).

Anyhoo, our dealer is asking to bring the vehicle in for service. The only thing I can think of is oil but right now, it's 44% from the console reading so not sure what service would be done at 4k interval?

Or is this another one of the 'stealer scams'? We have the 2 free service offers so I'd rather save them for actual service instead of just "inspection" kinda mandane tasks.

Cheers!

I have never bought anything brand new, but in your manual in the back, should have service intervals listed.
Maybe there is a 4,000 mile wing nut lube required.

I always follow the oil dash reading. It knows when it's best to change it and the first service interval should be around 7,500 miles. My deader says there "should be" a 4,000 mile service but it's just bs to get more money out of you

I don't think any services would be needed at the 4,000 mile mark. I didn't bring my Tahoe in for it's first service until around the 7,000 mile mark and that was just for it's first oil change and tire rotation.

I'd ask for an itemized list of what this service includes. I have bought 7 new GM Pickups for our company in the last year and not once been bugged for a 4k mile service. I also buy from the Business sales guy, not the normal sales guys.

I would on a new vehicle, change the oil at 2k, and then again at 5k and every 5k thereafter.

K.I.S.S ( keep it simple stupid ).

Most of your oil change places including dealers recommend every 3k, ******** on todays cars, It's a waste of oil. Every 5k is the way to go. 7500 is too hard to keep track of. If you wait for the light to come on you may have driven 8k or even 9k do you really want to abuse a 70 thousand dollar vehicle like that , I don't think so, and neither do you .

Remember KISS, Every 5K. Just my 2cents

GM rec's 7500, most people throw their oil away long before it's actually used up. Especially if you do mostly highway miles like I do...

Im also in the 1st change early crowd. Get all the metal shavings out that missed brief turnover at factory, then go by dic. I actually try to do 1st change before 3k with this philoshopy in mind (1k). Think of your mouth after some work at the dentist; you want just 1 rinse?
