Worked pretty good on my truck. Im gonna do it again soon. Next time im using more. I barely got any smoke last time. This is probably because i have a rebuilt engine.
Before my BB tune, I ran 2 cans in my tank after a fuel filter change and a can in my new oil after running an engine gunk cleaner in the oil. My Tahoe was driving like it was made of WD40!

I put a single bottle in my rig last night, and _nothing_ happened. I'm going to buy more, and up the dose, but so far, I'm luke warm.

Isn't there a SeaFoam intake cleaner too? Maybe something you suck in via a disconnected vacuum line?

thats a little overkill, it wont really help at every 3000

Thats how normal intake is done to cylinders in the engine with about a 1/3 pint of seafoam. They make a spray cleaner for the throttle body and the intake called "deep creep" that works great too. thats a more involved process then just seafoaming through a vaccum line.

Reason I asked is because I just manually cleaned a throttle body on the F*rd 460 in my motorhome, and I still want to clean the manifold but I DON'T want to have to remove it to do so. Too ugly a job. Was hoping there was a good DIY method for that part of the job.
The backside of the throttle plates were black and nasty. It had a slight catch when pressing the gas pedal down off idle it was so gummed up. I expect the manifold will need more than one cleaning--or do you think one 1/3 pint shot of Seafoam would be enough?
im afraid to run seafoam through the vac line with 104,000. i think i'll just put lucas in mine and the wifes gas tanks.

honestly if your engine was fully rebuilt you got some time before you really need to do it. Run some nice oil through her at every change and that thing will be clean as a whistle. But serisously maybe in a year or two you could seafoam but it really wont need much cleaning. -your lucky

I would try and clean by hand as much as possible, its a PITA but well worth it. Then run a 1/3 pint through and you will be amazed, but some in the gas (believe an ounce for every gallon, run to empty and then refill) that way you will clean out the lines and injectors as well.

Oh dont worry about it, with 104 its prime for some seafoam, pull in a 1/3 pint through the vac line, wait 20 min, and watch the magic. it will do wonders, i just did mine 300 miles ago and have 213,000 miles on the clock, 104 was just breakin her in :)

I think going through a vac line causes it to atomize somewhat and disperse better in the intake manifold. If you pour it in the TB it would probably just drain down and puddle up in the plenum. Just a guess, though.

If thats $CDN, then that was about US$65. Ouch. $45 plus shipping here http://www.storeseven.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=9465
Or even less if you buy the 128 oz ($0.47 per oz for the six-pack vs $0.39 per oz for the big can).
Several years ago I bought something at a local speed shop for a Canadian friend and shipped it to him. It avoided some pretty costly tariffs or something had he ordered the same thing directly from a US store and had it shipped. I guess they nail you on commercial deliveries

yeah i think it was 39$ for a 6 pack and 37.50$ for shipping. but it took only 4 or 5 days!!! that was awsome cause they told me up to 3 weeks!

So I put a bottle in the crank case, and several bottles in the fuel tank, and I got absolutely bubkiss. Nothing happened, other than it backfires when I start it up now, but I think a tune up will fix that. So I guess I can say my engine was pretty clean to begin with? Is that fair?

One of the videos or docs I read about it from the mfr said just divide the can into thirds, with 1/3 going for the intake cleaning, 1/3 for the gas tank, and 1/3 for the engine oil.
The only process that should make any smoke in the exhaust is the intake cleaning. The others shouldn't have any noticeable effect.
As for the engine oil, I wouldn't drive around with it in there. In fact, the first time you use it, you're not supposed to run the engine more than 30 minutes or 30 miles, then CHANGE THE OIL. After that, they have some strong cautions about driving with Seafoam in the oil--monitor it regularly "for color and clarity" although they give no benchmark by which to judge this, so I would avoid it.

Yeah, I just received the 128 oz can, and it didn't really have any instructions on it (actually, it may have had none...I'll have to check). Fortunately I'd seen some stuff online beforehand. Definitely check out the PDF docs on that page I linked, and watch the video on their home page:
http://www.seafoamsales.com/motor-treatment/index.html
That's where it mentions the 1/3 can thing. It doesn't say anything about changing the oil after a limited time, though, which is a pretty glaring oversight if you ask me. I think it should have been mentioned in the video, as some people may only see it.
And all of these instructions should be printed on the cans...

Heh- got the inside vacuumed, the windows washed, and the oil+filter replaced at Jiffy Lube on Rose Hill for $31. I couldn't have done it myself for that, if you figure my time at $5/hour. Win!!

Dude, Jiffy Lube and Win don't belong in the same sentence--using those places is playing Russian Roulette with your engine. I've seen so many crazy horror stories about quick-lube shops of all types... From the most benign (forgetting to put the fill cap back on) to modestly bad (using the wrong weight or type of oil; cross-threading the drain plug) to catastrophic (under-filling or NOT filling the oil). Only way I would use one of those is if 1) I was desperate, and 2) if I was watching over the entire process start to finish.

Had my bad experience with Jiffy lube. They didn't tighten the drain plug enough. I drove the truck home parked in the driveway, came out a couple of hours later and had a giant oil spill in the driveway. The wife was pissed! What if I had driven the truck out of town or something.

I don't trust any mechanic. I stayed in the aisle the whole time, just watching. My hoe blew oil everywhere when they uncorked her- it was really funny. But I'm with you.

i ran the foam through the camaro and smoke screened the highway with it. haven't had a chance to do the hoe yet.
i didn't put it in the oil, just the gas and vac line. its suggested you change the plugs after you run the tank of gas. gums up the plugs with all the trash its getting rid of.

Ah, that's the first time I'd heard of that. The mfr doesn't say anything about it, but I suspect many users have found that out the hard way.
That's a sobering thought. I *really* don't want to change plugs yet. This Seafoam job just went from easy to something of a PITA.

yeah i had a great time changing the plugs on the camaro around the manifolds, the truck is almost worse with the headers on it.

1998 Tahoe 5.7 Sea Foam FYI -
You can use Sea Foam as often as you would like because Sea Foam is a petroleum blend with no harsh chemicals. However on that application, a 98 Tahoe with the vortec 5.7 engine with CPI ,the vacuum source on that engine only feeds the back two cylinders. So the other 6 cylinders get no benefit by inducing Sea Foam into a vacuum line.On that engine we recommend only using Sea Foam in the fuel @ 1 oz per gallon. You will get the same benefit to all cylinders using Sea Foam in the fuel and will clean the injectors also when using in the fuel as you drive.

i have used the shit out of this product in every way possible with nothing but great results. In my hoe I ran one full can through the gas tank, then poured around half of another bottle into the vacuum line and put the remaining into the crank case a week or so before an oil change.
Truck idled much better afterwords.
Did this exact same treatment to my girlfriends 07 denali and her truck responded even better! that thing idled like SHIT when we bought it used... the seafoam cleared it up really good.
I think everyone should do this every 10k or 15k
