After dropping a crapload of money on my system, my subs that I bought off CL (never buying electronics off CL again) are blown. I think.

It's kinda of strange. I was cruising, not listening to my music that loud, and all of a sudden the bass just stops. Not completely, but you could baaaaarely hear it. Got home, checked it out some more, no wires came lose, amps are still running, everything is good. Here's the weird part... we opened up the barn doors and turned it up and 2 of the subs are working a tiny bit, while the middle sub isn't working at all. If they were blown, all 3 subs wouldn't be working is that correct? I don't know, this whole thing has got me puzzled.

Gonna call the guy who installed everything and ask him what the problem might be, and once I get some money together and I think im upgrading and going with 3 or 4 12" CompVR's. Gonna see how well my ZX750.1 pushes them, might have to upgrade to a 1000 rms+ amp too. Also, im gonna be buying an Alpine HU when I go to put the new subs in. I can't stand my Kenwood.

This sucks. :(

Maybe check the subwoofer wiring? Im not saying you do, but you might have the subs wired to be putting a different ohm load on the amp so its not stable. Those kicker amps are stable at 2 ohms? Just a guess...

most car audio enthusiasts say its easy to spot a blown sub. whenever it first goes out, they produce a smell that smells like electricity, yes, electricity, and the second that smell hits you, you know its electric. or, theres a big hole where your sub used to be. screw kicker, go JBL

Yeah, double check all your wiring. Do you have a remote that controls bass level? or is the level control on your amp turned up? Let us know what you find out.

Hmmm.. That happened to me when I first installed my DVD player. I couldn't figure it out.

It was that damned blue wire labeled 'ANT', I hooked that up to power and voila! All was good.

I read somewhere that blue wire also does our factory amp? I dunno..

I pressed on them, they still give just like they used to. I have them wired like this:

These are my subs and this is the amp powering them. Did the guy just wire them wrong? The guy is 40 something years old and said hes been doing car audio for over 20 years so I figured this wasn't the case but maybe it is? I dunno, like I said before im a total noob when it comes to this stuff.

Also, the gain lvl on my amp is turned up to like 3 lol. So im not understanding why all of a sudden they are acting like this. Like I said before, I wasn't even listening to my music THAT loud. If I can I wanna fix it myself instead of driving an hour so my installer can fix it. Help me out!

Need a common ground ( central) for the impedence load.Where is your amp grounded? To test the subs take a 9 volt battery and touch touch the sub wires to it. This will test the throw, (+ out, - in) and polarity of the subs to determine if they are blown. Good Luck!

Ok I think I may have figured out what's wrong. I think the middle sub is blown, and the left and right ones are close to going. Wired each sub directly from the amp the left and right ones work, but theres nothing on the middle one.

That really sucks...hope you didn't spend much. Thats the RISK you take buying USED.
For the most part CL has been very good to me. BNIB Volant intake for 150. My rims with tires and lugnuts 250. My subs two JLw7's in a box 325. Been running strong for a lil over 3 yrs.

How do subs blow by the way? Thought it was just from kicken the shit out them?

Brandon, if you have all three woofers wired to one input on the box, yes, one bad coil on the center woofer can send a clipped signal to the amp, shutting it down, which saves the amp. Sorry to hear man, buying used amps are ok, they usually are fine, used woofers on the other hand, you never know what they have been put through.
