Will a 5.7 from a 1995 tahoe work in a 1999?

I have a 1999 Suburban that blew a head gasket and I did not realize what happened in time so unfortunately it will not turn over and the coolant/oil mix started leaking from the engine. I have not inspected it close but I am pretty sure a new engine is in order, or a rebuild depending on where the leak is coming from. I found a 1995 tahoe that has been wrecked but the engine still runs and it will still move enough to pull itself onto a trailer. I believe the engine in the 1995 is not a vortech and mine is. If I change the intake and all the exterior engine stuff with my old enginer, will the 1995 work in my 1999?

probably wont run right or even have the intake bolt up. vortec 5.7 is mainly the heads but the other differences are probably a different camshaft than the vortec so the ecm wont be able to run the engine correctly. so it might run if the intake even bolts onto the non vortec heads. if it does run it will run very poorly and mosy likely end up killing itself.

The Tahoe might have a Vortec, check the RPO codes or visually inspect. The non-vortec is a TBI motor, the LO5. The Vortec was introduced in 1995 but I think the Tahoe got it in 1996, not sure.

The owner said it was not a vortech. I will probably go with a reman or crate engine. The prices seems to be pretty good.

'95 5.7 will not work in '96 Tahoe. TBI vs CSFI. Many differences; complete induction setup, heads/cam/valvetrain, computer, etc.

Should be able to find a running 1996 engine. If really want to get a reman, I suggest a Jasper Engine.
