Hi all, Im new here so please forgive me if this has already been posted. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

A little while back i had some strange squeeking noises coming from underneath which we assumed it to be one of the uni joints on the drive shaft. I was a little slack and didnt get around to fixing it but found the noise to dissappear, which i thought to be strange but just shrugged it off. I then would once in a blue moon when first driving to the end of my neighbourhood would hear a heavy grinding noise when breaking, but it wouldnt do it again for the rest of the day or even for a good week or so. So being on top of things like i have been, i ignored it a little (LOL) as it seemed to dissappear for a while.
Today my wife and myself were at out for lunch and when i was driving away from lunch it started to make a random chirp/squeek/popping sound. At first it seemed to be only under acceleration, but we had to drive an hr home from Syracuse to Rome and it was very randomly and inconsistantly making the sounds, light to heavy sounds, slow to fast sounds and would go quiet at times. When we pulled into our neighbourhood it was completely quiet without a noise.
I am a little stumped as in my mind if a bearing or Uni is going bad, would it not consistantly get worse?
I've attached a sample clip of the sound. This was in the parking lot so it didn't make the faster sound etc.
Thank you again for any thoughts or insight!

Hi Mike
I have a 97 gmc yukon.
Mine makes similar noises in 2 wheel drive when cold and goes away when warm. Squeaks in 4 wheel drive.
I am sure that it is my transfer case.
An oil change on it quieted it down for a while and has taken that click, click sound away at low speed.
I know that I will be rebuilding it at some stage. So that might give you an answer to your problem too.
Cheers

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Pics of the truck, please.

I would start be getting under the truck and inspecting all ball joints, to see if there is any play in them. I'd also look closely at the brakes on all 4 wheels to see if the brake liners are not worn down, or to see if some brake liners are more worn down than others on the same wheel.

Other knowledgeable folks on this Forum folks will chime in.
