Took it to the CAT scale with the Airstream behind it. It’s lighter than our previous camper by exactly 600 lbs., so that’s a plus. But as any of you with experienced towing eyes can see, the weight distributing hitch needs significant adjustment. It should be shifting 500-600 more lbs from the rear axle to the front. It has the Equalizer hitch, which is a great system that’s relatively easy to adjust, so I’ll do that before our next trip.

Changed plugs after 100,000mi of ethanol on a 206,000mi engine.
Put on new wires and heat shields on as well.
Stripped out more old useless wiring from the car's previous life.
Through the sub amp combo under the center console out of the way.
Rewired and repositioned the weboost cell signal booster from key on power to switch power regardless of ignition position.
New cabin filter, that one was a carbon filter so it's not as bad as it appears.
And finally a new seat bottom foam and cover so I'm not sitting on metal anymore.

Got all the metal dorman heater hose fittings also.

I wish i could figure out an easy way to clean the evaporator.
Mine was packed with dirt when i got the tahoe.
I did my best to clean it with compressed air and then did the cabin filter retrofit.

The cabin filter likes to plug up after a few visits to the desert property.
But that's junk that's not in my evaporator!

Working on A-pillar grab handle finally..

I want to sandwich a plate onto the a-pillar for the upper handle bolt.
Where the lower bolt goes on the driver side a-pillar, there is a slot receptacle for the trim, so you cannot rivnut the pillar directly there.
Thus the need for a mounting plate, which I will rivet to the a pillar.

The driver A-pillar trim is not recessed like the passenger side for the handle, so the driver handle will need to be spaced out further from the pillar to give you the same amount of room under the handle. (And for base of handle to be above trim surface)

IMG_0615.jpeg

Rivnut fail. Instructions say workpiece can be .5mm - 3mm thick.. This part is about 2.5mm thick.
(I thought it was 1mm, but that was looking at some harborfreight level that had 2mm increments!?)
And this short tool doesn't give enough leverage for that size rivnut.

Drilled 3 x 3/8" holes with 3 different drill bits to test. I like the unibit for keeping things round, though I worry it may not stay centered..
All 3 holes are a little loose for these rivnuts so that's not helping.
Manual says 9mm or 3/8", but 3/8" is 9.5mm. 23/64" is closer, but still a tiny bit larger than 9mm..

I replaced the starter today as part of my plan for preventive maintenance. I loosened the oil dipstick and moved it over and did not have an issue removing the starter. I also decided to put in a new battery because the one in my 2001 Tahoe was 4 1/2 years old. It is not worth worrying about starting and electrical issues on the road with a 4 1/2 year old battery. I replaced the cables last spring too.

I have owned this Tahoe since July 21, 2001 and it has 131800 miles on it. It spends every night in my garage right next to my 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that I have owned for 51 years.

My new favourite tool for that is *drumroll* an old toothbrush. Just blasting compressed air didn't seem to do much, especially with a bit of moisture in there.

How did you use to clean the condenser?
Oops, meant evaporator core under the dash
Just used one of those spray cans with a hose to get it as good as I could.

It must have done something because the AC doesn't really smell anymore
