What am I looking at?

While still trying to track down misfires, I found this tube loose on top of the transmission. First is toward the driver rear of trans, may have been on top of t-case. Second picture is the end of the tube that I found toward the front passenger side on top of trans, just flopping around. Did it break loose?

Its definitely a vent line. Cant tell if its hooked to your transmission or transfer case. The black plastic valve looks melted. That bracket should attach to one of the transmission bolts.

I can't remember, so I'll have to get under there tomorrow. Does it need to be replaced? I have no idea what it does.

This is what was used on my 1998 front differential, or at least I think that's where it comes from. It's mounted on the driver side near the radiator.

I don't see one on my transmission vent...it's an open end, but would have thought that it would have a vent cap as well.

The vent has a cap that drops down to prevent water from getting in. I assume that it doesn't take much pressure to push it open to vent.
