The OEM tray is attached with 5 M6-1” bolts in the floor (and 4 on the rear side). You probably could add a flat washer and use any of those 5 bolts to bolt it down.

I need to do this. Fantastic idea OP. I think maybe you could just drill holes in the bottom of the can and use some bolts with silicone washers and be bolted down.
You can’t open it that way. I was going to put some feet strategically placed to locate it and raise it so it doesn't rub the pcm. And use a strap to hold it down. Haven’t gotten that far yet.

I bought a NOCO group 24 battery box. Tossed the lid and had my wife sew a flame-resistant cloth cover with elastic in the seam. Works great! I store jumper cables and a few other things like WD-40 in there.

Anyone more of you go through with this and have pics to share? I still need to do this. Want to put jumper cables and a kinetic recovery rope in it like some of you said.

Glad you asked. I got distracted and put this on the back burner. Time to find a box that fits.

Isn’t that the recovery rope that Matt from Matt’s Recovery (YouTube) uses?

IT IS! But the ones he advertises are a bit more expensive... By $130 bucks!
