First post. Long story short, I have an 04 2500hd 2wd with cam and turbo. I was going to swap everything over to a silverado 1500 4x4 this winter. Then started thinking about tahoes.

How light could I get a 2004ish tahoe 4x4? Remove 2nd and third row seats, rear air, hitch, spare. Add 4l80e, 2wd escalade 9.5 14 bolt, turbo kit.

If I could get it down to 5000 with me at 180, it could be a 10 sec truck. At 5550 with me in the silverado, the truck went 11.61 at only 13 psi.

If you're trying to save weight, why would you take out the seats and leave it as 4wd? What would this be used for? If you want an oversized 2 seater, go get an astro van and save 500+ lbs... This thread is already irritating.

Why do I want 4x4? My 5500 lb 2wd truck spins the street tires hard, and the 28.4" tall drag radials look pretty dumb. And while I would love a turbo awd astro, my drivetrain and turbo kit wouldn't just drop right in. Why is it irritating that I want to drive around the waterbox at the track, and run 10's with a stock looking tahoe? I dont need more than 2 seats.

Anybody less irritated than adriver have any useful input? Thanks.

I do not have a tahoe yet. I have a 2004 2wd silverado 2500hd that I turboed. I am thinking about getting a 4wd tahoe and swapping stuff over. My main question to this whole thread is how light I could get a 4x4 tahoe. I am in the salt belt, but it looks like there are tons of southern tahoes for sale in much nicer shape than the pick ups. Cheaper, too!

buy a 2wd tahoe if you want to remove the 4wd. you can find used police tahoes for pretty cheap, come with a 6.0, turbo that up, they are all ready pretty stripped down basic trim inside.

Please reread the original post. I want a 4wd tahoe (maybe an awd escalade) and swap my drivetrain over. I do understand what is involved in doing so. With my 2wd silverado, it spins hard getting into boost at anything under 40 mph.

Sell the truck, buy an older Denali for cheap and build up the 6.0 that it comes with.

You couldn’t always tub your truck and put some bigger meats on it to reduce wheel spin.

Not putting any more money into my truck that is getting crusty. The engine in my truck started as an lq4 with gen 4 rods. Added 243 heads, btr dual valve springs, hardened pushrods, head studs, jfr 218/221 cam. I want a stock looking 4x4 that will run the number!
