so stupid question about coil spacers

so when ordering spacer is it a 1.0" spacer gives @2" of lift or 1" is 1"...
sorry i just saw a posting for a set on ebay and it said the 1.5" spacer would give aprox 3" of lift

Naw a 1.5" spacer will give only 1.5" and so on.
