I wanted to upgrade my stock '10 tahoe headlamps...can anyone recommend ones that are better/brighter? Are HID kits good for these trucks?

Retrofit projectors in your oem housings... ~$1000.00

HID kit from ddmtuning.com... ~49.00

Both are awesome :)

lol, I wish.

I should've reworded it as "Low Beam projector only (no High-Beam) and no special/customized LED DRL's/Turn Signals" :)

I have an HID kit from ddmtuning.com on my Avalanche at it looks awesome... best $50 mod you can get if you ask me... Projectors are not mandatory, they just simply look badass... that's why Serge has em :)

It is blinding if you get the 55W kit. 35W is ample.

Personally I'm not a big fan of HIDs without the retro ... alignment is always touch and go and it isn't a huge step up in brightness than silverstars. It's my observation that folks put them on for the Kelvin color affect more than a huge step up in light output ... although I'm sure I'm gonna get yelled at for saying this. :)

The upshot with silverstars is that it's a simple bulb replacement ... no ballasts/harnesses needed. It's a quick and easy mod.

Really? I disagree. I got them for both kelvin color (6k... really ddmtuning.com gives you 7k) aka WHITE and I notice a huge difference in light output from my factory bulbs : /

I understand ... but one also notices a significant increase in light output from factory with Silverstars. But the output variation is much less significant from SS to HID sans retro. :waytogo:

Ah I see what you are saying. I still think an HID kit with a separate ballast is way better then two SS Bulbs :)

Highland Park, IL. Transplant from SLC, UT to redu
Sylvania Silverstars and Wagner Truviews are the best stock bulb replacement, imo. HIDs are superior in lighting output, but I do recommending finding/making a good set of projectors as I do find HIDs blinding when not in projectors with a good cutoff plate.

it includes putting your stock headlights in the oven............$950 for a pro to do it sounds good to me.

We've actually discussed this in the past at length ... the only reason to go with bfc's setup is if one doesn't have a qualified retrofitter near them. A professional retrofitter will not only cost less, but will be able to do a custom cutoff for your vehicle ... which is rather important with such a powerful beam.

Don't know which part of Jersey Vinny is from, but if he wanted to go in that direction there's a very good shop called: lightwerkz

Some of their work: http://www.lightwerkz.net/

Basically you can get this (single retro), custom fitted, for less than the bfc bundle:

There's nothing wrong with their package, it's fine if you live out of the way of a pro retro installer, but it's just better to get done custom for your truck ... especially at that level of expense.

Im from the Jersey Shore...go figure, assholes from "the jersey shore" ruined it here for us...especially for us non *****'s named vinny like myself...ill check out that website u sent me...basically the stock headlights just suck as far as output...i dont care if they are white or blue or whatever I just wanna either upgrade to SilverStard like u said or get HID with a kit...money is limited im hearing mixed things...alot of guys saying HID without the retrofit is not the way to go

Many people here run PnP HID kits in their oem housings and are very happy with them ... I can all but guarantee that oncoming traffic doesn't share their opinion. Incandescent oem housings aren't designed to disperse hid beams, so it almost always results in inadequate beam dispersion where half the light goes out at glare that on the road.

If you want to have a laugh and see the catastrophic results of HID "kits" check out the hidplanet fail gallery: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?37924-the-hid-fail-gallery&highlight=hid+fail

It is what it is ... the budget option is to simply switch to Silverstar bulbs which will significantly improve light output with a simple bulb replacement, and the high end option is the retrofit.

Hope that helps a little. :)
