What's allowable piston ring end gap? (For top and second compression rings)
I have a 06 yukon xl with a vin Z 5.3, i've finished my engine teardown but after honing my cylinders i checked the ring end gap on the new rings and the top ring was 0.023-0.024 and the second ring was 0.025 roughly. Haynes manual says 0.009-0.017 for top and .017-0.027 for second.

question is, do i install the top rings that are a few thou too large and gap the second ring so its larger(approx 0.002-0.004) than that or do i buy a oversize set and gap them so they are within the 0.009-0.017 spec. i'd hate to buy a new set but i want this motor to last. this is a stock rebuild btw.. i've heard a lot of varying information on the web so any help would be much appreciated.

the new rings are enginetech ones i got off rockauto they are standard option not under or over.

Thank you!
