Hi guys, I spend my time in the street suspension forum so this is my first venture here. That being said, please bear with me if this is a silly request. I currently have a 00 NBS Yukon w/ a 4.5/5.5 drop. Looking to go up from stock about 3". I'm thinking a 3/2 lift w/ 33" tires should be good. Everything I've learned from going lower is that spindles ride better than keys up front. Is this also accurate when going up? Also, I'm not sure about the rear. My research says Z71 springs w/ a spacer will do the trick but I'm open to other options.

Also, I haven't really made a decision on wheel size. I currently have 20s w/ a +30mm offset that I'd like to use but I've been reading that I'll need a spacer to push the wheels out enough to clear everything. Is a 1" spacer safe to run on this truck? No, I repeat, no wheeling will be done in this truck, it's strictly Mall Rated. Also, what's a good tire? I know there's no "best tire" but what are some good ones to start comparing?

Sorry for all the questions guys, just looking for some advice from the experienced members here.

TIA

If I add lift spindles, can I still use stock length shocks up front?

I don't think you can run the stock shocks and yes it will still ride smoother with spindles it rides rough as heck with T bars cranked!

Thanks Mike. The research stage is half the fun. I'm going to call bilstein next week to see what a rebuilt shock will cost me. I figure since I already have bilsteins in good condition, they might be able to revalve for my goals at a reasonable cost.

Can't hurt.

Now is she gonna be a street queen or are you going to take her on trails since you are in a region that has tons of them?

Check with Red Raider. He converted his lowered Tahoe to a lifted Tahoe. I would try to see what he did and what problems he came across.

Screwd - Thanks for your help so far.

Z-56 - Thanks for your help on the shocks.

Tahoewhat - Yep, gonna try the high life for a while. I really want air but that's pretty far down the road and my truck needs a change soon.

Neil - I PM'd RR about his truck and he was lots of help too.

Thanks guys, I'll keep you updated as this progresses.

Been lagging a bit, my daily needs a bit of work and so does my bike. Plus we have a caribbean cruise coming up and I told myself no "toy" spending until after we get back. I think I've narrowed the tires down to the Cooper Discoverer AT3 or the Zeons in 275/60/20. I've decided on 3" lift spindles, OE bilstein HDs to start the front, Z71 springs w/ 1.5" spacers and Bilstein 5100s in the rear. That's it for progress. I'm trying to spread it over a few months but my patience may not let me, lol.

Thanks!

I've heard nothing but good things about them, I'm pretty excited.

Just curious, why not do 5100s in the front too?

The shocks, heck, the entire suspension on my truck has less than 10k miles on it so I'd like to re-use everything I can.

Back on the hunt for some help. Which wheels should I run on my truck? My goal is a 33" tire and I have my choice of 2 sets of 20s and the factory 16s as follows:

GMC 16s that came on the truck:

Boss 330s currently on truck:

NNBS GMC 20s in storage:

Expected tire size is either a 275/60R20 or 285/75R16. Opinions and suggestions welcome.

TIA
