Loose steering

I had this problem before with loose steering in my 98 tahoe. We rebuilt the entire front end and it was good for about 6 months. Now it’s loose as f#%* again! What could cause this problem?

What is an "entire" front end? You have steering and suspension components. You have a steering gear box. You have a frame mount for that steering gear box that could be cracked and flexing. You have a steering sector shaft. You have tires that we would need to know the size, tread pattern and air pressure on. Would also need to know the age and condition of the rear suspension set up. Need to know if stock height or lifted/lowered..........etc.

Is the steering simply loose (move steering wheel slightly to either side with no change in tire direction), or does it appear to be loose when moving the steering wheel and then suddenly over-correct itself?

Get under and find what's "loose". Problem could be the part you didn't replace, a bad part that you did replace or a poorly installed good part.
