I have had good luck on #8 with putting a 3/8"M to 1/4"F adaptor into the plug socket and then a 1/4"M to 3/8"F adapter into the first adapter and then my 3/8" drive ratchet as I don't have a 1" long 3/8" extension. I have yet to actually use the 3/4" socket over the hex of the plug socket combination, but when I laid it out side by side, it gives about the same offset as my adapter mash-up and would be right where a 1" long extension would get you.
