Hey guys. I have looked all over the internet for this answer and cannot find it. I did for sure find that an lq9 cam in a lm7 will cause it to stall out while idling with the ac on without a proper tune. The thing is the motor ate a lifter and took the cam with it and I plan on replacing everything next month or so. I can get a stock lm7 cam for $200. For an additional $37 I can get an l33 cam and a little bit more power with good drivability. Does anyone know if this will work without tuning it. Specs for l33 cam are 193/193 .482” .482” vs lm7 cam that is 191/190 .457” .466”. Basically I see it as an high lift lm7 cam. Thanks.

those 2 cams are close enough that it should run fine on the stock tune

okay cool. The budget for tearing the engine down to the short block doesn’t allow for a tune so doing this would be some sort of upgrade over stock. I have a cai on the truck so it might help that mod.

Just as an idea, if you could find an L33 truck in the junkyard you could buy and use that in your truck. You would just have to relearn the ignition security.

That sounds nice and would be cool to do, but the nearest junkyard from me is 220 miles away. Plus I don’t have the resources or the best area to swap in a motor and the nearest gm dealer is 68 miles away too.

Another question. The motor has 253k on it. Will my valve springs be good still to handle the higher lift of the l33 cam?

L33 cam would have used the same springs from the factory but I would replace them with that mileage, just grab some new LS6 springs

My mistake for not being clear, i meant the computer for the L33. But in reality, i dont think there will be enough of a change for the computer to care. Here is a comparison for the lm7 vs the other stock cams
