just an idea 4 the volant CAI box

so i installed my volant and was wondering what the results would be (pros and cons) to plugging the bottom scoop hole in the box and putting a high flow fan in the fender to help dump cooler air into the box. any thoughts?

if it is a good idea, which fan

4 3/4 in. , 86CFM, .45 amps, $20

5 in. , 185CFM, 2.1 amps, $30

i did find a 4 3/4 in. , 106CFM, .75 amps, $20 but i think it works off PMW

that fan will only be a restriction....not near enough CFM

its the same concept as the "electric superchargers" on ebay....I understand you just want to get colder air and not "compress" air but still it will not do anything for you...just my opinion

Not enough pressure on the discharge side to affect performance.

what CFM do you think is flowing stock? or needed to make a difference?

i was thinking doing it not only for the performance side but to also ensure flow of cold air and avoid any engine heated air being sucked into the volant box. any thoughts on plugging the ram scoop hole in the bottom of the volant box? i would think this would be a main source of engine heat entering the volant box.

im sure volant did at least 1 dyno test to see if a hole is better or not haha so i would leave it alone cause they probably put it there for a reason so why plug it?

the hole is there for the scoop that volant makes for the air box. so without the scoop (extra$125) the idea is that some warm air is flowing into the closed volant box through that open hole, i am going to plug it and try to find a high flow fan that pushes more cfm than the box is pulling from the fender and mount the fan inline. the real question is what cfm is the volant box is pulling currently.

So essentially you're trying to put more pressure on the air going in the air tube? They make things for that... superchargers.

SW CT,
Honestly, you are wasting your time. Instead of spending money on this little fan deal, just put that money away and save for a tune.

can you explain why it is a waste of time? have you tried it or know anyone who has? any facts to why this would not work would be great as opposed to just stating a possible opinion. i plan on getting a bb tune anyway ( i want all mods before i tune so i only have dont have to keep re-tuning as i ad mods). and $30-$50 bucks is not a great amount to spend on what could be a great little easy CHEAP mod that could produce a real gain, when we alreaday spend a grip on everything else.

does the maf measure CFM? if so i could see actual resluts from trying this out.

When you're going at speed, that air in your engine compartment is moving around anyways, it's not going to be as hot as when you lift the lid.

good point stevek. so hot air not an isue at speed, but what if i can actually create a small amount of forced air induction. i am giong to give it a shot. even a little makes a difference i would think and for 30-50 bucks i will take it. as opposed to a 3000-5000 dollar supercharger which you will get more but pay alot to get it.

I think the MAF is measured in grams/sec or something like that

give it a shot if you want but i really dont think you will see any difference....but i guess it wont be a restriction at all
