Rollin have you thought about 1 of the $70 ebay intakes that looks like the brute force? Sepiroth has had nothing but good things to say about his. I think he gained around 2 miles per gallon with it.

hey RT... mind if i chime in with my opinion here... the standard short ram intake setup that these trucks use are ALL the EXACT same design for the open element intakes. SOOOO, the only difference lies in the filter.

Let me save you a little money here, go and buy the cheapest Ebay short ram intake, they run between $60 and $70 all day long pn ebay, THEN, if you want that AEM dry-whatchama-call-it (AEM's dry filter media that probably does out perform the $60 units) you can pick that up for about $50 or $60 online.

So you now have an AEM brute force for $130 or so... saved you a bunch of money. Now you owe me a beer

just in case you wonder where AEM gets off charging so much, they are a superior company, when it came to true cold air intakes (common on the ricers) they had tested and proved tubes that ran paths to the bottom of the car with the least amount of resistance, thus giving the vehicle the most amount of COLD air possible and the knock off companies could never match these designs. As for the Short Ram intakes like we use on these trucks, its one bend.... get the cheap one.

right now the silverado has one of those cheapy evay ones an a K&N filter. but I notice no difference.

OK new question. Who could I take it to to have a true ram air intake put in. im talking the whole ****** 9 yards. either a new hood with functional intakes. Or my stock hood having a whole cut in it and the intake sticking out of it.

also anybody wanna chime in here???

keep in mind this is limited education on the matter so someone else may need to back me up on this one....

but when you are talking about the ram air, you will need a bigger throttle body, like a 90mm of some ********* like that, then get a custom cowel hood and mount the filter right at the throttle body...

after you have burned all that cash, you will still only have a small power increase, throttle response will be increased, but not even by as much as all that work should give you.

however, im thinking all that (new hood painted to match + new TB) you probably in nearly $1000 or more, why not just save up a bit more then that and just go with FI... you want more air in that motor? get something to force it in!

My .02

if you have one of those Ebay CAI units, just stick with that... i dont know what a 4" MAF costs, but that MIGHT get you more power/responce, but i doubt it would give you enough to warrent spending the money.

or you could just say **** it and go get the bottle... a nice 150 shot should put a smile on your face
