I bought an upgraded billet oil diverter barbell to install when I did a rear main seal on my 5.3L and decided not to pull the factory diverter. It's an Improved Racing unit for Gen III & IV LS engines, new in original packaging.

I paid $30 for it. I'll sell it for $20 with $5 flat rate shipping.

I had the transmission out and the part in hand to change preventatively. Then I started debating, should I just leave the factory part in, am I going to install it incorrectly and have an issue which would be a nightmare to pull the transmission again, etc. I talked myself out of touching the factory diverter. In retrospect, I should have changed it.

OK. Good to know that you had an internal mental discussion and decided not to implement. NOTHING wrong with that!

I had read before implementing my mod that the original plastic diverter was difficult to remove. I found an advice site that said to drill a shallow 3/16" in. hole in the end of the existing plastic one, and then use an EZ Out Extractor to remove it. Piece of cake.

Removing that factory diverter my biggest concern. I had visions of burning 2 hours fighting that plastic barbell and it was enough work pulling and installing the transmission solo on jack stands.
