The lights on the HVAC gauges do not work. one by one the bulbs burnt out. they are the ones at the bottom for fresh air, recirculate, A/C, and rear defrost. I have taken the unit out, but cant seem to take the green computer board looking thing off the back of it to get in there and replace the bulbs. i beleive there are like 4 little clips holding it on, but i cannot seem to unclip them to remove the back piece. any ideas on what i am doing wrong? it is a 2000 tahoe. thanks in advance.

Dont know how to remove the board but I will type to you that the bulbs are soldered in.

You'll need to solder the replacement bulbs in too.

You can use needlenose pliers to squeeze the end of those white clips/pegs as you pull the board through.

Radio shack has bi-pin lamps that work.

If you replace them with LEDs you can cut PCB trace to one leg and insert the needed resister there. One resistor only in the ground trace may not work in the case of the buttons as one or more LEDs will be on at different times altering the load.

I left bulbs in most of it and used a blue LED in the A/C button and a red in the rear defrost button.

The LEDs won't dim at the same rate as the bulbs.

Happy soldering!

Yes, they need to be soldered in. You can find replacement ones in slavage yards and ebay. That is if you're too chicken to try a MANS job, lol. Ok that was wrong.

Now now. It's good for folks to know their limitations.

A REAL man ignores them! :)

The HVAC panel comes out and apart fairly easily. There's just some small screws to parts to keep track of. If you don't know how to solder, practice before working on your $300 control panel. Ask a geek buddy to help and define WHO will be responsible if it explodes afterward :)
