So here's the best I could do to show you how to remove your air bag from your steering wheel.

This is what it looks like with your air bag removed. You can see through the black hole there is a metal clip.

I inserted a screwdriver to show you the approximate location

Here's the pin pushed that will release the air bag.

Better picture pushing the pin...

And here's the picture showing exactly what you are trying to do.

Hope this helps!!!

super helpful. I removed the air bag to enable me to disassemble the wheel and remove the covers where the coating was peeling. I was able to scrape-off the rubberized finish, lightly sand them and spray with a semi-gloss fiinish and it looks great.

Question, Is there any risk of the airbag accidently deploying by doing this?
I want to switch out my worn steering wheel control buttons and would like to be able to better grasp the wires to make reconnection easier.

Thanks!

I've done it 3 times with no issues. Honestly the last 2 times I didn't even disconnect the battery.

I guess if you just start jamming a screwdriver in there you could potentially touch the wires together if you don't disconnect the battery.
