I am looking into De-tagging my Tahoe. Wondering what do I need to do this? I am assuming just like a razor and something to clean the residue left behind from the glue on the back?

Thanks,
Tyler

I take it you mean removal of the emblems?

Flat blade screwdriver, some rags for protection (I've used a wooden ruler for leverage) and pry GENTLY and SLOWLY....hair dryer helps in some cases....

Second option.....fishing line to cut the backing from the emblem (might wear some gloves)

Either way you'll need to get the sticky off, mosts folks use their fingers...they'll more than likely rub raw...lol.....adhesive remover helps too....I definately wouldn't use a razor, putty knife etc

Good luck!

Don't use a razor, you'll be sorry. Do what Frycaptain said. I just did mine last weekend. Used a old credit card, blow dryer, goo gone and my fingers. I got everything off, but because I polished that area I need to polish it with the badges off.

after doing this to many many cars.... i would definatly recommend Fishing line.... get alittle adhisive remover or goo-gone (automotive finish) and soak alittle behind the emblem. the wear some work gloves and take a nice peice of fishing line and use it like a saw... back and forth, pulling it forward as you go. it will make quick work of the emblems and will leave you with no scratches or anything... just alittle compound and wax to make it even back there...

note: your gonna need to rub off some of the adhisive that is still on the truck... just use a good rag and goo gone and it will be gone...

I like to use Goof Off in place of goo gone. seems to work better for me. WD-40 works just as well as goo gone IMO. And yes, your fingers will be raw when you finish. expect at least 1 blister!

get a pinstripe removing rubber wheel from 3m to remove the adhesive...no blisters and no goof off or goo gone needed.

fishing line is the best way to make sure you won't mess up your paint. if you have a heat gun, you can use it to assist in the removal.

I like to use an old plastic card myself, the kind they use for key cards at hotels or an old credit card. GENTLY work it behind the emblem, kinda like the fishing line trick. That and 3M adhesive remover does the trick every time.

any and all methods work just fine...you can use fishing line, credit card, or even a screw driver....

The screw driver method sounds horrible...however, if you look at the back of my Denali, I took the Yukon emblem off using only a heat gun to warm up the adhesive, a screw driver to pry/pull the emblem off (screw driver never even touched the truck) and Goo Gone for the residue.. looks as if it was never on there in there first place

if you have a dark color truck..depending on the condition of your paint, that space will stand out...because that area of paint has never been faded by the sun...I've seen some people run around like that..hahahah ;)

Finally got around to getting all the old emblems off-

SIDE LS EMBLEM/TAG

Also, What I used is a sharp "pick tool" and just pulled the emblem off enough where I can grab it with a small pair of need nose pliers. From there I pulled the emblem off and used some 3M Adhesive remover and my fingers. And last polished it with some Turtle wax/polish.

Next is the front emblem to get painted...

I did my emblems last night, but does this work for the side molding to? Used a heat gun, just curious if it would work on something that big.

I'd probably go the fishing line/dental floss route. Since it's a big piece, and then soak a older rag in goo gone and rub the tape and residue off. I'm not taking mine off but those that have will chime in.
