i'm planning on gettin a set of headers for my 99 tahoe. i noticed there is a 3/4" (if i remember right) hard line going from the rear of the driverside exhuast manifold to the front driveside of the intake manifold. i'm assuming that this is a revised version of the old heat-riser system used on carbed vehicles to aid in warmin up the engine. i dont think i have the A.I.R system, so would i be safe to get headers without the A.I.R. provision and plug the hard line described above at the intake and run standard shorties?

The line you described is the EGR line... AIR is predominantly found in CA. Given that you're in TX, you probably don't have AIR.

do you think i will run into any problems if i we're to remove that line since the headers dont have a bung for that?? and then plug the intake port. ...problems being DTC's or engine performance issues

You'll throw a code unless you have EGR removed from the computer programming. Also, you'll notice a decrease in fuel economy without the EGR.

I've read of folks successfully removing the EGR programming and have also heard of folks welding in an EGR pipe on the headers...

properly application-ed headers do. Perhaps the ones you saw may not be suited for you vehicle yr. and emissions classification. Street legal ones will have the E.G.R fitting on it. Such as the one pictured below it go to 1999 without A.I.R. and has the E.G.R. fitting.

What sunlitcomet said is the best way to go about it... Get the headers that are designed for your application. Here's a pic of the ones that I have on my Tahoe (ceramic coated Thorley Tri-Ys):

Edelbrock shorties. I plan to do these. magnaflow cats and a flowmaster cat back to replace what I have now which except for muffler and tip is all stock. 100% direct bolt-on and 50-state legal. Use summits application guide to find yours.

Bring it by the house one weekend and I'll help you install them. U should bring Julie and the kids also; Cindy and the girls haven't seen them for a while.
I have a couple 5.7 sbc parts laying around that you can have also if you want them.
