Does the rear sway side to side when on the highway? If so you're shocks might be shot. I deleted my ZW7.

Or the shocks may have been changed to standard shocks, replacing the Nivomat technology with shocks that aren't meant to play well with the softer coil springs.

No it doesn't...I know SUV's are top heavy, but I didn't think wind would affect it so much. There is some play in the steering....

Could be idler or pitman arm. Common. Have an alignment done recently? Have the frontend checked out at all?

What is Nivomat?:)...looks like we have the same model car.

Nivomat is a shock technology that self-adjusts for loads, without being electronic or air-assisted.

This site is geared toward Volvos but explains the technology: https://blog.fcpeuro.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-nivomat-self-leveling-shocks

The OE springs and the Nivomat shocks (RPO code G65) are part of the "Premium Smooth Ride" (RPO code ZW7) on some of our 2000-2006 SUVs. The rear springs are softer since the shocks do some load leveling, unlike standard shocks. People tend to forget, or not know, that it's a combination of the two, and change only the shocks to standard. That can cause some instability with handling since the springs are softer. It's recommended to change to stiffer springs when converting to standard shocks.

Excellent explanation.
