Hello all, I bought a 98 Tahoe LT the other day that has about 159k on it. I will post some pics cause it's in good shape. I was wondering if anyone has used this GMPP L31 383 vortec upgrade. I am using this Tahoe for towing my boat around Florida and I will eventually be replacing the stock engine just because I can't keep my hands off anything. I just finished up a 383 build on my 97 Camaro Z-28 and it came out real good so I am thinking I may wat to go with a stroked engine in the tahoe eventually. Here is the link to the GMPP L31 383. http://paceperformance.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=184746

Yea I figure this would save me the troble of having to find an engine that has good internals and building a mean 355 out of it. I have not had any luck in the past just because I am so damn cheap LOL. Thats how my LT1 became a 383. I had planed on doing a lean mean 355 N/A but the crank and rods were trashed so for the same price as a 3.48 stroke rebuild kit I could get a 383 rotating kit. Good to hear that your bud had good luck with them. Do you know of anyone that reworks and flows these vortec heads? I'm sure I could google it and find some one but I'd like to find someone who is a guru if you know what I mean. I had Lloyd Elliot do my LT1 heads and that man is a true LT1 guru.

in Florida, sure, the vortecs do very well as is, just clean the casting up a little and have the guides cut down for a stroner dual spring, for the added lift. If you do the 383 shortblock, you can get from Scoggin-Dickey the upgraded, built vortec heads form them as well.

If you were to build a 383 out of your Vortec 350, can you tune it with like BlackBear or HP to support those upgrades?? This is something I would consider if I dont sell my 98

sure, your tuning the computer to support it. The engine just has a larger displacement.
