wow had to catch myself up on this topic. ok the spider injectors suck. ive never dealt with them but there is a oem updated version i geuss. your running issues sounds more like a nasty vacuum leak to me. soon as it warms up everything expands you loose vacuum. if your temp gauge isnt going up your thermostat is stuck open. removing it is causing the same effect as when it was left in. my 97 was terrible when i first bought it for the same reason. replace your thermostat with a new one.

I would get rid of the spider unit too. Doesn’t sound like it’s holding enough pressure. You can get the MPFI unit on Amazon, without the base, for cheaper than anywhere else. You can check RockAuto too.

It sounds like the gauge temperature sender is not connected. I'm thinking the gauge sensor is on the driver side head and the computer sensor is on the intake near the thermostat.
Thanx, hope it as simple as that

That’s correct.

The ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor is the one that the computer uses. If you have a scanner, see if it is reporting some oddball temperature. If it is, that can cause hard hot-starts. To get around it, you’d floor it while cranking. That puts it in ‘clear flood’ mode and temporarily stops fuel injector flow.

The dash gauge is really just to ballpark things and alert to an issue; I wouldn’t count on it for any type of accuracy.

As for the injectors, here is the diagnostic on it. Maybe it will help.

I would vouch for the MPFI upgrade. It made a big difference in throttle response on my truck. It smoother and seems to require less throttle to get things moving...but it may be a placebo effect and an indicator of how bad my 20 year old stock injectors had gotten.
