I am finally getting around to some lingering To-Do list items on my 2005 Tahoe now that I am driving it more often. Right now, I have a lot of play in the brake pedal. I previously (5+years ago) replaced the master cylinder and bled the lines. No issues with stopping. I am planning on replacing the fluid again now that I have a Four Uncles brake bleeder.

Per the attached image, I definitely have some play where the push rod attaches the brake pedal assembly.

However, it feels like the whole rotating pedal assembly has additional press/release play. In the image you can see where the push rod goes through the fire wall where it is leaking. It feels like (yes, I am guessing) the stop for the return action is worn, which is pulling the push rod back further than it should. That is, the pedal is returning forward too far. However, I cannot determine where (or if) there is a stop mechanism for the return action. It may be between the mounting bracket and the rotating assembly, thus not visible without removing it.

1) Does it look like the push rod is being pulled out too far?

2) Does anyone have any images of the return stop mechanism (if there is one)?

Thank you very much!!

You need one of these installed. I just replaced one of these on an 05 Tahoe with non adjustable pedals. It was kind of a PITA without the adjustable pedals and I can only imagine how much more a PITA it is with adjustable pedals. Plenty of you tube videos for this. Can you hear any rattle when going over bumps? You may or may not but grab the pedal at the foot pad and shake it sideways. There should be no play. This bushing is way up top where the pedal assembly pivots.

Thank you! Actually, there is very little play side to side. No rattles at all. Just delayed engagement. I will probably get my snake camera out and try to get a better look. Thank you again.

BTW, yes, replacing that pivot bushing would be a MASSIVE PITA!!

Thank you! I would concur. I am on the Summit Racing website right now. We have one about 30 min away. Cardone Remfg 52-7370. I have the JH2 code with the tow package.

On a side note, I am building air pressure up in my power steering, but just had the pump replaced and replaced the return line, the lines to the cooler and the power steering cooler. That led me to the hydroboost as well. I bled it twice, but it builds pressure just driving to the grocery store and I can hear it pop / release air from the cap.

Thank you very much!!!

I have been battling some health issues, so I had the local shop put the hydroboost in for me along with a few other things.

1) It definitely took care of the play. . . . most of the time. I gave them the kit for the hydroboost push rod and it appears they used it.

2) I had replaced the cap to the power steering fluid reservoir before I took it in. While driving on a 1000 mi trip we could hear a pop of some sorts about a second after we hit a decent bump at speed. I thought about it awhile and purchased an AC Delco cap (GM 26095194) for the reservoir. I was thinking the other cap may have been designed for the power steering with the vacuum brake boost and was for lower pressure system. The popping stopped after I changed the cap (GM 26095194), BUT, the play in the pedal I had initially remains. Now I am wondering if the cap I bought is vented and the system does not build up the pressure it should.

If anyone has a link to a decent GM truck parts web site with exploded diagrams, I would appreciate it. I have tried a few, but often find they don't line up with my truck, even after I enter the VIN.

Thank you!
