Any specifics for the awd 6 speed part number?

I ended up having to call Ft. Wayne Clutch, and I highly recommend you do to get the right parts as it's not listed on their website which part is the right one for your truck.

Getting the old ujoint out was a pain in the ass. the driveshaft had 180k on it and I had busted the old bearing caps off pressing out even after burning out the nylon locks in the OEM ujoint.

That said, I'm absolutely satisfied with the package from Ft. Wayne Clutch. I ordered my stuff on Tuesday, it came in Thursday, Had it installed by Saturday morning. No more slip/stick clunk. I used some teflon grease on the splines as well.

The inside snapring u-joints are amazing. I was skeptical at first since I haven't used them before, but I'm impressed with how beefy the bearing caps were. By the time I was done I had less drivetrain vibes and no more clunk.

This is the kit, waaay cheaper than OEM - and a better U joint.

Hi guys thanks for this post. I just bought a 96' 4x4 hoe about 3 weeks ago and I got the clunky clunks. For the longest time I thought it was my trans or dif. Glad I stumbled on this thread! Anyone have a link to a step by step of removing the yoke & U-joint and replacing? I've never replaced U-joints or messed with a driveshaft any tips or links would be greatly appreciated.

wow. I hope this is my issue as I have a 99 4x4 Tahoe 6 inch lift 360,000km on it and have changed all my u-joints, front a arm busings, engine and trans mounts (swapped in new eng anyways), had front driveshaft lengthened to fit the lift, new body mounts, new leaf spring bushings, leaf spring u-bolts, swapped in a 14 bolt diff (was doing it anyway), new tcase (old one broke), all in the hopes of fixing the clunk and modding the truck. Im down to this yoke update or leaf spring bushings

Found this thread. I have a 2004 suburban z71 that is making a clunk when it shifts going up a mountain. I think it is into second from first. It happens when I get on it to get up the hills faster. Just once as it shifts. Could this be the same problem? Just changed the transfer case fluid and it was dirty red. Put in the auto Trac ii. Thanks for any help

I just did this, after a bit of a problem, I'm all done and the nickel slip yoke works great. You don't want to keep greasing your yoke, the grease will degrade your fluid over time plus its a PITA to keep doing it. I ordered the wrong one from gm parts direct, the one that ends with 702 I believe, is for a ext cab 4 WD, they wouldn't take it back so now I have a 200 dollar paperweight until I find someone who could use it. The shipping also was expensive and took forever. I ordered the correct one for our trucks from drive train America.com, the part # is 40032054. I just installed it and it fits great and they were very quick with the shipping, only cost 115 bucks as well. Highly recommend them. First time I ever changed a u joint and it went really well. If you are on the fence, DO IT! It really is worth it.

I also ordered the wrong part from gmpartsdirect. I would run far and fast before using this website (they also have different domain names for the same site with the same interface). They will take your vehicle details down to the trim level and then tell you the part fits WHEN IT DOES NOT. It is extremely difficult to cancel an order. I had to call like 50 times because the please hold line would just disconnect you (you will hate yourself and want to die and want to kill ten people). Finally got through. Avoid frustration don't use gmpartsdirect or their other "websites". I'm going to the chevy dealer to get the part. It's worth the extra cost.

So i have a sle yukon 1999 2wd gmc they rebuild the tranny 5 months ago before it was making a clunk when i stop n take off n it stop 2 months it started back up doing ot again it started real quite do i took back to the tranny shop he said he check the tranny n everythings fine he staded that my leaf springs are rubbing each other that they are bad do you think it is ?? That or my drive shaft is going bad.
Ok, so I have posted on here that I was having this clunk when I would get to the gas after a stop. Let me start buy saying saying I have wasted TONS of money and countless opinions and finally I have solved the problem.

My chain of events...
Trans goes out and replaced with a GM trans. After that I had this clunk sound from the rear end and I swore it was my rear diff. The chase began, rear end serviced and carrier bearings replaced...no fix. One tech thought to be leaf spring bushings (the where basicly gone)...no fix. New slip yoke and u-joints...no fix. I had another tech swear it was the rear diff, I just couldn't throw $500 towards something I really felt was not the problem...didn't do it.

The FIX...trust me!!!
I have a friend that's a parts manager for a local GM dealer and he pulled a GM bulletin from several years ago on this issue. The bulletin states to replace the slip yoke with a nickel plated one...had mine replace but not the nickel plated one. And also put GM Auto Trac II (blue) in the transfer case with this special GM grease on the slip yoke.

So I check the fluid in the T-case and low and be hold the tech who installed my new trans must have put regular trans fluid (red) in the T-case...BIG NO NO! I flushed the trans fluid out and added the GM Auto Trac II fluid and loaded my slip yoke with the GM grease and now my truck runs AWESOME no clunk at all!! So before you go and have different opinions just check your t-case fluid and make sure you put the GM auto trac II fluid if you see the red. My truck has 195,500 miles on it and I believe now it will go for a bit longer! There must be something with the blue fluid that really lubricates the gears in the t-case and the GM grease really keeps it soft on the yoke splines.

Just had to let all know.
