I just bought a 97 Yukon the other day, and today I noticed the crank pulley has a little wobble to it. Is there a write up on how to change it?
Thanks

the torque I could not find but loctite is always good. I would not go more then 40ftlbs on torque though IMO.

Could not find torque but loctite could not hurt. IU would not put more the 30-40 pounds on the pulley bolts though. the damper to crank is already at 70ftlbs.

Is there a way to tell if it's the balancer rather than the pulley?

Pull the flywheel cover and use a flywheel tool to hold the crank from turning.

This topic is interesting because I was experiencing a simular issue, well at least I thought. I was hearing a weird noise from my front end, and the belt was new so I figured it was the pulley. I changed the pulley, which was easy enough, but the noise is still there and it drives me nuts.:emotions122:

Maybe this is for you:

File In Section: 6 - Engine

Bulletin No.: 77-60-02

Date: June, 1998
Subject:
Accessory Drive Belt Noise Due to Power Steering Pump Pulley Misalignment (Properly Align Pulley)

Models:
1996-98 Chevrolet and GMC C/K, M/L, S/T; G, P Models
1996-98 Oldsmobile Bravada
with 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L and 7.4L Engine (VINs W, X, M, R, J, N - RPOs L35, LF6, L3O, L31, L29, L19)

Condition

Some owners may comment on accessory drive noise.

Cause

The power steering pump pulley may be misaligned with the end of the pump shaft.

Correction

In addition to the normal service for the above condition, it is critical that the pulley is flush with the end of the power steering pump shaft. If it is not, reference the appropriate service manual for proper service instructions.

Belt Sqeeking

My belt has been squeeking since i bought the truck six months ago. Tried new belt but still squeeking and not getting worse. I noticed my power steering pump pulley is almost 1/4 inch from being flush with the shaft. Going to get a puller and see if i can push it on more and hopefully that fixes it.
