Need suggestions. I want to color match my front chrome bumper on a 2002 Yukon XL. Would it be best to paint or power coat the bumper. The color will be green

Powder coating will probably hold up better to be honest , you are stripping the chrome off first correct?

i would hope hes stripping the chrome off

but if not, you will need to spray with a self etching primer i believe to have the paint stick

never painted chrome, i hate the stuff, lol

ME TOO!

Sand it down, get below the nickel. Use a good primer, etching kind.

Powder coat will be better though as said above. Some shops want their own prep and some will accept yours.

Just spoke with a shop. They said they can do it for $100 but the color would probably not totally match.

You can paint over chrome and make it match with a good scuff and 2k epoxy primer prior to paint the issue will become that the bumper will be less susceptible to bumps and nicks once painted as the paint is only as strong as the bond of the chrome plate.
